Local Arts Opportunities! Get Involved, Show Your Stuff!

Call for artists: The Del Ray ArtWalk. "A Show of Hands" is looking for participating artists for the event on August 4th, 2011. Options for enrolling include 1) the Art Market, a no-fee display in the parking lot on the Avenue, artists must bring own tents, tables, chairs, etc. from 6-9pm 2) Demonstrations on Mount Vernon Avenue from 6-9pm 3) Performing arts groups for 15-minute slots during the event 4) any other ideas that artist have for participating. Call for Entry: Del Ray Artisans is celebrating Independence Day w/artwork inspired by U.S. people, places and/or things. Artists are asked to create artwork with U.S.-made materials so as to emphasize both the origin of the materials and that we represent a large, important purchasing bloc. Art-To-Go (matted/shrink-wrapped) work encouraged and all artwork is available for pick-up at time of purchase. Entry fee is $5 per piece for members and $8 for non-members. All Artwork must be priced for sale. Entry fee is $1 for up to four art-to-go sale items. These works must no larger than 18”x24” and priced to sell. As art-to-go items sell they may be replenished by the artist at the curators’ discretion. Acceptance of all submissions is at the curators’ discretion. Art must be ready to hang or display with wire and screw eyes, mounting and/or display stand, framed, matted, or with edges finished. Call for Entry: "Masks" Deadline: August 1, 2011. Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, VA seeks entries for a juried exhibition at Target Gallery, October 1-30, 2011. Juror: Brittany Yam, Director Project 4 Gallery, Washington DC. Masks is an all media exhibition that is open to all artists, nationally and internationally. Masks have long served as a symbol and a tool for concealment, protection, amusement and performance. Artists are being asked to create work based on the theme of masks, literally and conceptually.  $35 entry fee. CALL FOR ENTRIES: SOLOS 2012. Deadline: July 1, 2011. Each year, AAC selects 10 to 14 artists from across the Mid-Atlantic region for solo exhibitions in AAC’s seven separate gallery spaces—or outside on the grounds. Proposals that specifically consider AAC’s space, layout, and surrounding environs are encouraged. Floors plans are available on our website. Any existing works must have been completed within the last 3 years in order to be considered. We're pleased to announce that three exciting guest panelists will lead our review process for SOLOS this year, and consider every artist application received: Klaus Ottman, Curator at Large and Director of the Center for the Study of Modern Art for the Phillips Collection; Karen Milbourne, curator for the Smithsonian African Art Museum; and JJ McCracken, DC based installation artist and art professor. Call for proposals: Southern Regional Tech/Rec Complex Public Art Project #1 Exterior Entry. Deadline: July 15, 2011. The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Department of Parks and Recreation invites artists with professional experience in creating public art or site specific commissions to submit an application to design, fabricate and install original works of art for the exterior grounds of the Southern Regional Tech/Rec Complex (Tech/Rec), currently under construction in Fort Washington, Maryland. There are two concurrent calls for public art applications for this site; Project 1 – Exterior Entry and Project 2 – Patio. Artists and artist teams may apply for both, but no one artist or artist team will be awarded both commissions. $1000 will be provided to each finalist or finalist team selected to develop and present proposals, which shall include a scale model, samples of materials, and project budget. The project budget shall include estimates of the costs for materials, fabrication, outside contractors, engineering, transport, and installation.
