Annual Jury for Artist Members & Visiting Artist Program

Annual Jury for Artist Members: February 28 - March 3 Drop Off Date: Monday, February 28
Artists working in fine arts and fine crafts are eligible to apply for the Torpedo Factory's Annual Jury for new members. Upon selection, the associate artist member is eligible to sublease from our resident artists and work toward joining a studio in the future.

Visiting Artist Program: June - August 2011Deadline: Monday, February 28Emerging and experienced artists are encouraged to apply for one, two, or three month residencies at the Torpedo Factory Art Center. FotoDC presents FOTOQuest 2011!


The Hunt for Hidden Talent is on!

Calling all professionals and amateurs - FotoDC is hunting for the most interesting, compelling work by Washington area photographers, with a chance to exhibit this spring at our FLASH exhibition, March 17 - April 17, 2011. Photojournalism, Fine Art, Editorial, and all genres are welcome.
We have two free ways to entice you: Choose one... or both!
* Interact with one of the leading names in photography during a candid, exclusive In-Person Curator Assessment.
* Submit your work by mail for FotoDC's In-House FOTOQuest.

The Hunt is on! If you are selected for exhibition at either the Curator's or the FOTOQuest spring shows at FLASH, you will be notified by February 23 and will be responsible for printing your own image. FotoDC will mount and install your work for exhibition.

Studio Space

Columbia Pike Artist Studios (CPAS) in Arlington is currently working to establish a wait list for artists interested in acquiring studio space. While there are no current vacancies, some are expected over the next few years. If you are interested in being considered for future openings, please complete the application on the CPAS website. 

(Please be aware that CPAS' application process includes a juried review of the applicant's art work before he or she can be considered for studio space).

Sugarloaf Craft Festivals Accepting Applications for Fall 2011 Shows

Sugarloaf Crafts Festival, one of the nation’s most popular and most recognized juried shows of contemporary crafts and fine art, is now accepting applications from artists in all media for its fall 2011 shows.

The fall 2011 season of Sugarloaf Craft Festivals includes:

Timonium, MD (outside Baltimore), September 30 – October 2, 2011
Gaithersburg, MD (outside Washington, DC), October 14 – 16, 2011
Somerset, NJ, October 28 – 30, 2011
Oaks, PA (outside Philadelphia), November 4 – 6, 2011
Hartford, CT, November 11 – 13, 2011
Gaithersburg, MD (outside Washington, DC), November 18 – 20, 2011
Chantilly, VA (northern Virginia), December 9 – 11, 2011

Artists may apply for the fall 2011 season in all categories including ceramics and pottery, fiber and fashion, fine art, furniture, blown and leaded glass, jewelry, leather, metalsmithing, photography and functional and decorative wood crafts.  

Sugarloaf enters its 36th year among the most respected shows in the country. In 2010, nine of Sugarloaf’s 13 shows were ranked in the Top 200 nationally by Sunshine Artist magazine.  This past fall, attendance at the seven Sugarloaf shows increased by12%, and artists’ sales increased over 8%, totaling $9.7 million. Artists whose work is exhibited at Sugarloaf shows are jury-selected and are represented in the nation’s finest galleries, private collections, and museums.

Artists interested in exhibiting at Sugarloaf Craft Festivals can download applications from Applications must include slides representing artists’ work and their display space. January Events at the Art League Gallery

Start your New Year out right with these great events at the Art League Gallery!

January 6 - New Member Orientation: Open to all members, new members are strongly encouraged to attend. Gallery staff will answer questions about entering monthly juried shows, framing requirements, and much more. 7:00 pm.

January 13 - Opening Reception for the January All-Media Membership exhibit and Alison Sigethy's Understory. Karen Reedy Dance will give a performance and awards will be presented at 7:30 pm. 6:30 - 8:30 pm.

January 15 - Patrons' Show Tickets go on sale at 10:00 am! We've already received a lot of great donations and rave reviews, so this year is shaping up to be the best Patrons' Show yet!

January 18 - John Burgess: Exhibition Prints Using Inkjet Printers with Color Management. Art League member John Burgess presents his very popular discussion about maintaining color accuracy. 1:00 - 4:00 pm. Contact the gallery (703-683-1780) to sign up.

January 20 - Alison Sigethy: Artist Talk. This month's solo artist will discuss her exhibit, Understory, as well as her innovative glass and reclaimed materials techniques. 7:00 pm.
