SMALL WORKS SHOW

**CALL FOR ARTISTS**

Oerth Gallery's 1st Annual all-Media Small Works Exhibit 2009

Lorraine Oerth is inviting fellow-artists to join us at Oerth Gallery as an exhibitor in our upcoming "Small Works Show". We're celebrating "The Small Work" - and this is a group multi-media exhibit at Oerth Gallery November 20 - December 31, 2009.
Number of Pieces Allowed: You may exhibit 2 pieces.
Sizes Allowed: All pieces must be no larger than 12 inches in any dimension.
Media Allowed: Only original media created by you is allowed, including, Paintings, Original Prints (No reproductions or giclees), Drawings, Collage, Mixed Media, Sculpture in any Media, Fine Crafts including ceramics, glass, jewelry (only if the jewelry can be mounted inside a shadow box ), and photography.
Presentation: Pieces must be ready-to-show.
All wall-mounted pieces must be framed according to professional standards using a traditional hanging-wire system (no clip frames, no temporary framing, no scratched or damaged frames or glazing - please!)
Sculpture must be ready-to-exhibit and must be secure and stable.
Fee: $5.00 per 2 items. ($10 due at drop-off - $5 will be refunded at pick-up)...
Jury: There is no jury, (yeah NO REJECTION) but gallery owner, Lorraine Oerth, will curate the exhibit's hanging - and select a "Best of Show" and "2 Honorable Mention" Awards.
Awards: The "Best in Show" winner will be offered a solo or group exhibition at Oerth Gallery.

Delivery: Monday Night November 2 by appointment 703-836-3784 to coincide with The Art League's drop-off
Tuesday November 3 through Saturday November 7 from 11 - 5 PM.
Tuesday November 10 through Saturday November 14 from 11 - 5 PM.
Exhibit Dates: November 20 - December 31, 2009
Friday Night Reception: November 20, 2009 from 7 - 9 PM
Pick-up: Thursday December 31 from 10:30 - 5:30
Saturday January 2 from 10:30 - 5:30
Tuesday January 5 - Saturday January 9 from 10:30 - 5:30.
Please note: Oerth Gallery has NO storage space. Works left after January 30, 2010 will be considered abandoned by the artist and may be donated to a charity of our choice - Animal Welfare League of Alexandria's 2010 Annual Dinner & Silent Auction.

Smithsonian Workshop: Exploring Nature in Detail

The Smithsonian Museum of Natural History is having a FREE special event for budding and professional artists. This event will allow the public to draw directly from the Smithsonian's collections!

Be ready to draw from plants, insects, rocks, minerals, fossils and more!

Bring your own art supplies, and begin drawing! Professional artist will be on hand for questions or career information.

At 1:30pm, local artist, Brian Kirk will demonstrate how to create a copper beetle!

Open for artists 10 years old and up!

The workshop begins Saturday, November 7th from 11 am - 4 pm

FotoweekDC 2009 - DEADLINE EXTENDED!!!

The Deadline has been extended - New Deadline: Oct. 30th - 5pm!
This exhibit will be part of FotoweekDC, the region-wide celebration of the art of photography. Art League members accepted into this ONLINE exhibit will have their work on The Art League's photo sharing site, www.flikr.com, for the month of November.

Juror: Chan Chao
Chai is a DC-based photographer. He has exhibited widely, including shows at Numark Gallery, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Yancey Richardson Gallery in New York, and was featured in the 2002 Whitney Biennial. Chao teaches at George Washington University and the Corcoran College of Art and Design.

Guidelines for Submission
Work must be submitted by Friday, October 30th by 5:00 pm.
Artists may submit up to 2 works.
JPEG or TIFF format, no longer than 1,000 pixels in any one direction.

Alexandria Police Memorial

deadline: Friday, October 30, 4pm
The City of Alexandria, Virginia seeks to commission public art for the Alexandria Police headquarters, currently under construction. The purpose of the project is to recognize the service of Alexandria Police Officers to their community. The artwork will focus on the honor, integrity and sacrifice of Alexandria's fallen officers, past and future and will convey a message of honor, appreciation and remembrance rather than one of loss and sorrow. The Memorial will also provide an appropriate site for ceremonial activities of the Alexandria Police Department and the City. The Alexandria Police Department has lost seventeen law enforcement officers in the line of duty, the first in 1823 and the most recent in 1993.
Deadline for Submission: October 30, 2009, 4 pm
Budget: $300,000
Eligibility: Open to all artists. No geographic requirements.
Anticipated Award Date: May 2010
