This weekend is huge for the city of Alexandria, as it holds its Sixth Annual Festival of the Arts, which will take place on King Street between Washington Street and the Potomac River:
Saturday, September 13, 10 am - 7pm
Sunday, September 14, 10 am - 5pm
This nationally-recognized festival will showcase 150 juried artists exhibiting original paintings, sculptures, photography, glass, ceramics, mixed media and more.
To coincide with this, September solo artist Edward J. Reed will demonstrate how to paint from a figure in The Art League Gallery on Saturday, September 13 from 12pm to 3pm. An instructor at The Art League and a sensitive portrait painter, Reed will demo his techniques surrounded by his own paintings. If you can't make it Saturday, he will also demo:
Saturday, September 20 - 12pm to 3pm
Sunday, October 5 - 1pm to 4pm
Also part of the Alexandria Festival of the Arts, the Torpedo Factory Art Center will host Art Activated on Saturday, September 13 from 12pm - 4pm. A collision of visual and performing arts, the day will feature artist demonstrations (including that of Ted Reed), BosmaDance performances, and West African Storytelling and Flute by artists from Smith Farm Center for Healing and the Arts.
Of course, this is also a great day to check out the All-Media Membership show currently on display in The Art League Gallery.
