Working with Clients

The Prosperous Artists blog had a helpful post last week about working with clients - "Do you work with or for your client?"

Not enough clients or commissions? With the sale of your artwork, The Art League Gallery gives the purchaser your resume, web site and other marketing materials (never your contact information). That is, we give it to them if we have it! Be sure to provide us with your resume, artist statement and postcards from your other gallery shows and events. Market yourself!

Send materials to or mail them to the gallery at:

105 N. Union St
Alexandria, VA 22314

We also keep track of those interested in your work, and contact you with their information as we get it. Be sure to follow up on these contacts, because keeping in touch can often result in SALES.

Best of luck with your clients!

A Big Saturday!

This weekend is huge for the city of Alexandria, as it holds its Sixth Annual Festival of the Arts, which will take place on King Street between Washington Street and the Potomac River:

Saturday, September 13, 10 am - 7pm
Sunday, September 14, 10 am - 5pm

This nationally-recognized festival will showcase 150 juried artists exhibiting original paintings, sculptures, photography, glass, ceramics, mixed media and more.

To coincide with this, September solo artist Edward J. Reed will demonstrate how to paint from a figure in The Art League Gallery on Saturday, September 13 from 12pm to 3pm. An instructor at The Art League and a sensitive portrait painter, Reed will demo his techniques surrounded by his own paintings. If you can't make it Saturday, he will also demo:

Saturday, September 20 - 12pm to 3pm
Sunday, October 5 - 1pm to 4pm

Also part of the Alexandria Festival of the Arts, the Torpedo Factory Art Center will host Art Activated on Saturday, September 13 from 12pm - 4pm. A collision of visual and performing arts, the day will feature artist demonstrations (including that of Ted Reed), BosmaDance performances, and West African Storytelling and Flute by artists from Smith Farm Center for Healing and the Arts.

Of course, this is also a great day to check out the All-Media Membership show currently on display in The Art League Gallery.

Get Digital Images of Your Artwork

To have your pieces photographed for conversion into digital images, members can drop them off between 10am and 6pm on Monday, September 15.

Many galleries and competitions request digital images, and they are also useful for marketing your work online. The solo artist jurying process at The Art League, for example, requires digital images as part of the application.

Don't miss this important opportunity!
