Dominion Power Award 2007 Lisa Neher, Rock Creek

Landscape - –noun
1. a section or expanse of rural scenery, usually extensive, that can be seen from a single
2. a picture representing natural inland or coastal scenery.
3. Fine Arts. the category of aesthetic subject matter in which natural scenery is represented.

Landscape art depicts scenery out-of-doors such as mountains, valleys, trees, rivers, and forests. Sky is almost always included in the view, and weather usually is an element of the composition. Traditionally, landscape art depicts the surface of the earth, but there are other sorts of landscapes. Members may be inspired by the emotion-infused works of such painters as, Alfred Bierstadt, Thomas Moran, Marsden Hartley, Winslow Homer, or the abstracted, intense color of contemporary artists such as Wolf Kahn,, Dan McCarthy, and Gregory Kondos, Members can also look to our own Art League instructors, Mike Francis, Gwen Bragg, Fred Markham, Ross Merrill, Sara Poly, Jim Steele, Steve Fleming and many others. This is our most popular exhibit. Be inspired, try something new. Concepts in landscape to consider are:
• Skyscapes or cloudscapes that are depictions of clouds and atmospheric conditions.
• Moonscapes showing the landscape of a moon.
• Seascapes that depict oceans or beaches.
• Riverscapes that depict rivers or creeks.
• Cityscapes or townscapes depicting cities (urban landscapes).
• Hardscapes , paved over areas like streets and sidewalks, large business complexes and housing developments, and industrial areas.
• Aerial landscapes depicting a surface or ground from above, especially as seen from an airplane or spacecraft.
